Summary

Wielki Brat Patrzy – to właśnie napisy tej treści, w antyutopii Orwella krzyczące z plakatów rozlepionych po całym Londynie, natchnęły twórców telewizyjnego show „Big Brother”。 Czyżby wraz z upadkiem komunizmu wielka oskarżycielska powieść straciła swoją rację bytu, stając się zaledwie inspiracją programu rozrywkowego? Nie。 Bo ukazuje świat, który zawsze może powrócić。 Świat pustych sklepów, permanentnej wojny, jednej wiary;

Hated it。 The writing, however, was superb。 The fact that it was written in 1949 about the state of the world as it might be in 1984 was very imaginative。 The fact that I read this in 2021 and how the state of the world so closely resembles Mr Orwell's dire predictions--that's what I hated。 Orwell's description of The Party and Big Brother and the all-seeing telescreens is too suggestive of our recent non-fiction history and current events。 The re-writing of history。。。check。 The spying on citize Hated it。 The writing, however, was superb。 The fact that it was written in 1949 about the state of the world as it might be in 1984 was very imaginative。 The fact that I read this in 2021 and how the state of the world so closely resembles Mr Orwell's dire predictions--that's what I hated。 Orwell's description of The Party and Big Brother and the all-seeing telescreens is too suggestive of our recent non-fiction history and current events。 The re-writing of history。。。check。 The spying on citizens。。。check。 The separation of Party members from proles, like the current ultra rich vs the ever-growing population of homeless。。。check。 Did Orwell time-travel to our present day to get his ideas for this book? How else could he have known what kind of mess we'd make of our democratic society? I had to skim past most of the Goldstein papers; pages and pages of painful discourse。 And the torture scenes to achieve the brainwashing of Party doubters were greatly disturbing。 So, yes, this was a masterfully written work of fiction but its all too accurate predictions did not make for entertainment。 Rather, it made for frightening reality。 。。。more

A raw and compelling Dystopian novel which reached into my heart, pulling it to read on, to flip to the next page。 A truly rewarding read and a brilliant masterpiece。

This is the crappiest book I have ever read。 I give it no stars。 Orwell wrote this book just after WWII and to project that the world would fall into this evil and chaos right away is unthinkable。 There was no belief in God which made this book trash。 Good people will triumph!

I finally read it! Only took me 26 years。。。 😅It was cool to finally connect lots of pop-cultural dots- I。e "four lights" from TNG and the uter Church from The Invisibles。 This novel's influence is even more far-reaching than I had thought。I love Orwell's writing。 The first book that I read of his was Down and Out in Paris and London, back when I was about 12 years old, and it immediately became one of my favourites。 I wasn't as crazy about Animal Farm, but that's probably because I had to read i I finally read it! You won't regret it if you pick it up。 。。。more

One of the main themes of the book 1984, written by George Orwell, is to not let anything control you。 1984 was big on freedom。 George Orwell criticizes the idea of dictators and totalitarianism。 The characters in the book try to find a way to feel free and be themselves。The main characters, Winston and Julia, search for a way to be together。 Winston discovers that Julia is in love with him and he can't stop thinking about it。 They secretly get in touch and are able to meet。 They continue to be One of the main themes of the book 1984, written by George Orwell, is to not let anything control you。 1984 was big on freedom。 George Orwell criticizes the idea of dictators and totalitarianism。 The characters in the book try to find a way to feel free and be themselves。The main characters, Winston and Julia, search for a way to be together。 Winston discovers that Julia is in love with him and he can't stop thinking about it。 They secretly get in touch and are able to meet。 They continue to be in love and meet at different locations, hiding it from the rest of the world。In my opinion, this book is just ok。 It wouldn't be something I would want to read usually。 It is a good book with a well thought out plot。 I like reading easier to read books and this one was tough for me。 I kept getting lost and confused。 I was mixing parts together and didn’t know what was going on sometimes。 The book had a good story and was overall interesting in that sense。I would recommend this book to anyone who really likes dystopian books。 It has a great story and if you do a lot of reading and can understand more complex reading, it would be great for you。 If you are just doing it because you need to read a book for English class, this is not a book I would recommend for you。This book has kind of told me what not to choose。 I am not someone who reads very often and this is not a book for me。 。。。more

So much throughout reading this, questioning anything that any character stated。 I couldn't trust any of it, I could only weep for the unimaginable torturous world where War is Peace, Ignorance is Strength, Freedom is Slavery, and the only hope is to love Big Brother。 。。。more

This book was difficult to read。 Not because it’s a hard concept, but the rigidity with which the author writes is so off-putting。 I realize that connotation is intentional because of the storyline, but I just dreaded opening it up。 I had to use audible for this one because it was so awful。 I’m going to reread it at a later date to see if I feel differently now knowing the full story。 I didn’t mind it so much about 5/8ths the way through, but hated the ending so much。

If it's romance at first person_facepalmingI see Julia and Winston as the most messed up relationship that can happen。 How did they fall in love? Sexual lust was the main purpose as if its prostitution。 How does winston feels? "Her body is a physical necessity" he says。 sexual lust definitely。 And Julia feels the same too I suppose。 Based on that, u can say that those 2 are a couple based on sex basically。 You will notice how julia personality is way different than Winston's personality which is clear。 Shared interests? Nothing except "making love" till now。 Based on what I read, if they stopped having sex, they will break up。 I really dislike this。。。Chapter 7 part 2"if you loved someone, you loved him, and when you had nothing else to give, you still gave him love"Perhaps this chapter is the most fine with me。 Contains some good thoughts as wellPart 2 chapter 8 and 9 was really good ig。 Especially the at the end of chapter 9 when u get to read Goldstein book。 Magnificent theories, logical thoughts about future consequences, and amazing analysis overall。Part 3 was really scary。 It's hell literally。 Especially room 101。 Whats happening is unimaginable 0。0The way the torture goes in unimaginable and provoking。 What Obrien is explaining at the tortue is just as a devil who is trying to prove his sinful acts logical and reasonably learn from them。Logical but wrongBrian washing。。。。 =0Obrein took part in writing the Goldstein。。 That was a sub plot twist。Chapter 3 is rlly insane。So having an enemy even a fictional one helps the part establish a sense of victory and humliation for its society。 So they will be ridiculoused and defeated yet survive and so on。 This is what they call delusional distracting "drama" Chapter 5 Room 101 Finally =0"but for every one there is something unendurable-something that can not be contemplated。 Courage and cowardness are not involved。 The ending is such a dramatic sad scene。 The only victory he got was one over himself over his true self。 He never defeated the party but he defeated the himself meaning the party won。 Its inevitable as Obrein said。 Or at least till now。 I will give this book 3。 4/ 5 as a whole。 But 4。5/5 for the philosophy, the provoking ideas, the conversation style at the last 70 pages, and the hints or foreshadowings given。 Other than that I didn't like many scenes as I thought of it as unnecessary and weird。 The novel contained more thought and ideas depth than it contained for the actual plot if u know what I meanI do not necessarily need to approve with meThats my unpopular opinion。 。。。more

i wanted to love this book like everyone else, but i felt so disinterested and disengaged with it。 i kept waiting for something to happen。 some actual sort of rebellion。 but instead, it was a boring, drawn out story in which there was no hope。 no actual chance of overthrowing the oppressor。 in dystopian books i want an overthrowing of the government。 i want to see things change。 you don’t get that in this book。 whatsoever。
